WHISC’s Main Goals

Each of our main goals comes from our three-tiered approach and vision:

a. An active research and study center for scholarsin Israel and abroad;

b. A resource and study center for high school teachers interested in teaching and developing material on this subject; and

c. An archive of material, including documents, research papers, oral histories, films, videos, memoirs, images, etc.

WHISC aims to

1. Draw attention to the voices and experiences of women in the Holocaust;

2. Be a home for research and study devoted to this subject;

3. Encourage and facilitate interdisciplinary and gender-focused research and study;

4. Form a committee of scholars—women and men—to guide the work of WHISC and be a “bridge” between researchers in Israel and abroad;

5. Publish research about women as victims, survivors, resisters, rescuers, bystanders, and perpetrators during the Holocaust;

6. Encourage, support, and assist young scholars, including graduate students, who are interested in researching and studying this topic;

7. Develop, together with the Moreshet education staff, an interdisciplinary, gender-focused curriculum, appropriate for use in secondary schools in Israel and abroad;

8. Create workshops to train teachers – in history, social studies, literature, art, religious studies, etc. – to use the Women in the Holocaust curriculum in their classes;

9. Organize an annual international conference, rotating between Moreshet and other locales, about Women in the Holocaust.
