Women in the Holocaust International Study Center (WHISC)

Women in the Holocaust International Study Center (WHISC) is part of the History Division of the Havatzelet Group for cultural and educational institutions of Hashomer Hatzair. In the History Division, there are two more research institutes, Yad Yaari and Moreshet, each of which also has a rich and unique archive. The History Division also has a publishing house that publishes research, non-fiction and testimonial books. The History Division is located at Givat Haviva, Israel.

The topic of Women in the Holocaust has received attention from scholars and educators, particularly since the publication of Carol Rittner and John K. Roth's book, Different Voices: Women and the Holocaust (1993). Following all the research done onwards about this topic WHISC aims to be an essential, pioneering initiative in the subject of women in the Holocaust.

WHISC aims to establish a comprehensive archive of historical materials focusing on the experiences of women in the Holocaust. It will contribute and enrich interdisciplinary multicultural research, about women’s experiences, whether they were victims, survivors, resisters, rescuers, bystanders, or perpetrators. Thus, concentrating on the experiences of Jewish and non-Jewish women during the Holocaust, encouraging and facilitating research and study about them all.

WHISC activities:
